How Would You Change The Minnesota Wild?

I was going to go in alphabetical order for the 'How Would You Change?' feature, but since this is the jersey du jour, I figured I'd get some more discussion going about the Minnesota Wild's new third jersey.

Before I share my thoughts on the jersey, I wanted post this video that's over on the Wild's website, that features —what seems like a totally disinterested Derek Boogaard— unveiling the third jersey at the Minnesota State Fair.

I think this jersey is fantastic ... with a fatal flaw: The scripty, wordmark crest.

It's not a bad crest, but it's just not a hockey crest in my opinion. It would work great on a Major League Baseball jersey, but not hockey. And before you all get uppity, know that this is just MY opinion.

The jersey itself is an amazing piece of work. The shade of green, the big stripes, the old-school look and feel, the subtle hint of red on the collar — it's all great. I can't complain one bit about the jersey and the uniform as a whole.

It's just the crest that stinks.

I would love to see some concepts where the "M" in the baseball logo is the only thing that is saved from the design. That's a nice looking, old school "M" and I think that would make a better crest.

How Would You Change?

I'm starting a new feature here at PuckDrawn called How Would You Change?

It's a pretty straightforward concept: You tell me how you would change the logo presented.

First team up is the Anaheim Ducks.

How fitting that the Ducks are the first on the list. They may have the worst logo in the league and I'm sure everyone would suggest tearing it down and starting over.

I hate wordmarks, so that's the first thing I would change. I'd definitely start over with this one. Or maybe I would just try that duck foot "D" as a logo. 

I would also come up with a new color scheme. Orange and black are unique to the Flyers in the NHL, so they really gotta change that.

Ditch the wordmark, new color scheme, and try the duck foot "D" as the primary logo.

What about you? How would you change the Anaheim Ducks logo?

More Canada Vs USA submissions!

Just waiting on the well inspector to go over to the potential new house, so I had some time to post these contest submissions.

The first two submissions sent in by MKH Design. I'm not a fan of the Mountaineers so much, but I like the Ice Hawks.

Buying A Home Is A Pain In The Ass

Home buying sucks and so does recording!

Sorry for the lack of updates recently. I'm in the process of buying a home and it is quite time consuming with all the paperwork, inspections, etc.

On top of that, I'm currently in the studio with the band as we are recording our new album.

Oh, and not to mention all of the freelance projects due this week!

But fear not, I have a bunch of concepts and Canada Vs USA designs backing up, so those will be posted very soon.

It's a good thing Icethetics is running at full speed, or you hockey design nuts would be having some serious withdrawals at this point!

Canada Vs USA Submissions

Here are a couple submissions for the Canada Vs USA contest.

Oh, in case it's not obvious to some of you, original artwork is required for your submission to be accepted. I have gotten a couple of designs that were just existing logos slapped on a jersey template. While I appreciate the effort, you can't win a jersey/logo contest with some other person's design. Just sayin'.  I'll go make sure that is clearly stated in the rules. Probably my fault for assuming that that was an obvious rule.

Now onto the designs.

Here's another entry by HAFILAX who must be designing in his sleep at this point! Keep those designs comin, HAFILAX!

Here's Brandon Levesque's New England Lobster submission. If you're going to start a team in New England, and the Whalers name has already been used, why not go with "Lobster"? And thank you, Brandon, for not making the lobster all mad and clawing a hockey stick.
