AHL's Syracuse Crunch Unveil Revised Logo and New Team Colors

Icethetics recently reported that the Syracuse Crunch (AHL) were getting color updates to their logo and uniform to reflect their new partnership with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.

The Crunch have officially unveiled the recolored logo, which you can see here.

The revised logo features the club’s classic moniker depicting the face of an ice gorilla biting through a hockey stick with the word ‘CRUNCH’ emblazoned in ice block letters above him and showcases the new team colors of black, ice blue, metallic gold and burnt orange.

 

In addition, the Crunch will unveil a brand new uniform design that includes the new team colors in the upcoming weeks.

There's no debate that this logo is terrible, is there?

We have a smiling, yet angry ice monkey, biting a hockey stick in half, with gloves up, ready for a fight ... topped with an ice cube wordmark. I'd suggest that this pig needs more than a new shade of lipstick.

WHA Redesign - NJ Knights

Anthony Lamberty sends us his NJ Knights concept for the WHA Rebranding Competition, Eastern Division - Field 2.

There's no mistaking the blue here. At all. This is a nice and clean design, well executed and thought out, but the overpowering amount of blue kinda takes away from what could be a strong entry. I won't harp too much on the lack of color and will concentrate on the design itself.

Interesting choice by Anthony to use the knight chess piece as his teams crest when the obvious solution by most people would probably be to use an actual Knight image. Always good to see someone thinking differently.

The horse is definitely a strong visual element, but do you lose a little bit of that strength when you include the base of the chess piece? Instead of "horse" it's "chess piece". If it's me, I delete the base and see how the horse would work alone as a Knights logo. Maybe the horse and some crossed swords behind a shield, etc.

The horse illustration is nicely done. Shadows, mid tones, highlights - all give it depth. You also get a sense of speed and aggression without being beaten over the head by including some hockey stick/sword being bitten in half.

I'd like to see the straight text above the crest go and would give this uniform some life with colors other than just blue, medium blue and light blue.

Overall, this is a solid design.

Maple Leafs Third Jersey To Change for 2011-2012

Much of the news about the Toronto Maple Leafs jersey changes for next season have been centered around their home and away sets, and nothing about their alternate jersey. Icethetics (via Howard Berger) reported that the home/away jerseys would change, but not get much of an overhaul, and that their alternate would remain intact. This piece by Damien Cox pretty much says the same thing.

But the National Post is reporting that the Leafs are, in fact, making a change to their throwback alternate...for 2011-2012.

Tom Anselmi, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment's COO, said the organization is redesigning its third jersey, which currently is a throwback to the early 1960s. While he would not get into specifics, he said the team is looking at its rich history for ideas. Any change would not take effect until the 2011-12 season.

"It's premature to get into a lot of specifics," said Anselmi. "But we're going to change the third jersey. When you get into the Leafs history, it gets real fascinating. When you go back, there's all kinds of intricate changes."

So, what do you think, Leafs fans? What kind of changes would you like to see for your future throwback? I, for one, would love to see the Darryl Sittler era jerseys make a comeback. Those are one of my all-time, all-timers.

WHA Redesigns by SK and JG

Here are a couple of quick WHA Redesigns for ya.

The first one was sent in by the Eastern Division - Field 1 bracket winner, Sigma Kappa.

Another fine piece by Sigma Kappa. I'm getting an old school, 70's vibe from this one, even though the dragon sleeve patch is a more modern design. The flaming "P" is a nice touch, and could be the fire breathing brother of the Flyers' winged "P".

With a name like the Blazers, it's hard to really move from the orange/red scheme. Nice job by Sigma Kappa. (Is that a re-purposed dragon? I could swear I've seen that before)

Here's my New England Whalers entry. I scrapped the original Philadelphia Blazers idea I quickly put together because I just couldn't come up with anything visually interesting with my Liberty Bell and fire concept. I still may resurrect it if I have more time.

This Whalers logo was a lot of fun to do and it took EVERYTHING I had not to illustrate the whale biting a harpoon in half.

WHA Redesign Contest - Eastern Division - Field 1 Winner Announced!

We have our first winner in the WHA Redesign Competition!

In a narrow victory, with 18% of the vote, Sigma Kappa beat out Chad B. Stilson (51 votes to 49) with his Chicago Cougars design for the Eastern Division - Field 1 bracket.
