Interesting article at the Washington Business Journal about a guy from Vienna who sent in some unsolicited designs to the Capitals. Chris Joannou says that the eagle "W", perched atop the Capitol dome is HIS idea!
A Vienna hockey fan has filed a federal lawsuit against Ted Leonsis’ holding companies and the National Hockey League, alleging the Washington Capitals’ latest eagle logo nicks from logos he had pitched to the Caps.
Chris Joannou claims he started tinkering with the Caps’ old logo in his spare time in 1993. He sent the team an unsolicited drawing of an eagle and the Capitol dome embedded in a hockey stick. Very Pittsburgh Penguin-y, but the late Abe Pollin, the Caps owner at the time, allegedly acknowledged the design in a July 1993 letter.
Read the whole thing.Well, that's the problem with sending in unsolicited designs ... It's your word against the team's.
It would be nice to know how to actually send a team a design that is solicited. Any suggestions from the legal people on the board?

It's now being reporting that the Capitals have been sued over their secondary "Weagle" logo. Read all about it over on Icethetics.
